Head of the Sensitivity Review Service

£67,214- £78,033 plus £1,750 location allowance and excellent benefits

Full time and based at Hanslope Park near Milton Keynes

Proactive and customer-focused, you possess the confidence to lead a team while planning and strategising for the future. You can work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders at a senior level. But now you want a new challenge. A role where you’ll use your skills to empower your colleagues and drive genuine change. Here at FCDO Services we have a unique opportunity for you, one in which you will provide thought leadership across Whitehall while acting as a key stakeholder for your government customers.

As a trusted partner of government, FCDO Services works on a huge range of projects, helping to project the UK’s interests around the world. We design and construct secure government buildings. We help earthquake-proof embassies. We ensure that FCDO has the information technology it needs. And a whole lot more besides.

FCDO Services has developed a Digital Sensitivity Review capability that enables UK Government departments to meet the requirements of the Public Records Acts to select, review and transfer digital records consistently and securely for permanent preservation at The National Archives.

A variety of Artificial Intelligence technologies are used within the process, including the initial curation of unstructured source records, the appraisal and selection of records that meet the criteria for permanent preservation, the sensitivity review process to remove all sensitivities in accordance with the law and in such a way that as much of the original record as possible is available to the public, and finally robotic processing of the records to enable the high standard of transfer required by The National Archives.

We’re looking for a highly motivated and customer-focused professional to lead the further development and delivery of our state of the art digital Sensitivity Review Service.

Use the latest technology as we face up to a wide range of complex challenges

When you join us in this important role you’ll lead on the evolving digital Sensitivity Review capability for FCDO Services, embracing the use of advanced technologies including AI to tackle the complex and mounting challenges faced by Government departments in processing their records.

Support our customers as we grow our operation

This area of FCDO Services’ operations is going to grow enormously, and you’ll take a highly motivated team on the next stage of their evolutionary journey, helping them to grow and mature. You will ensure we have the optimal levels of capacity to meet our customer’s needs, we’ll expect you to balance the quality of the service we provide with the costs, and continually look for ways to improve value for money. You’ll head a team of over 60 members of staff, including our very experienced sensitivity reviewers, and with this in mind we’ll expect you to be an inspirational and motivational leader.

Help us change and grow as we work to defend the UK’s national security interests

Passionate about the positive aspects of business growth, you’ll have experience of managing a complex service delivery or operational function, and of managing customers and suppliers. You will be able to analyse, interrogate and evaluate data. You’ll be a skilled writer and interpreter of technical and professional documents, and you will possess a deep understanding of the implementation of AI solutions to the benefit of your offering. You should have a degree or its equivalent in a computer or management related subject, and a PhD in an appropriate topic would be a bonus. A working knowledge of records management and the Freedom of Information Act would be an advantage but is not essential.

Grow your career

When you join us, you’ll be contributing to protecting the nation’s interests at home and overseas – but how will we help you in return? As well as a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and a Civil Service pension, we’ll also support your development with training opportunities to help you advance your career with us. Our offices have an on-site gym, nursery, canteen, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. It’s a superb package of benefits as you help to deliver our evolving digital sensitivity review system.

If you’re successful, you’ll need to achieve Developed Vetting security clearance. This process can take some time, but the end result – an exciting and fulfilling career with FCDO Services – means that it’s well worth the wait.
