Senior Manager – Records Management
Salary: The starting salary is £62,310, which includes allowances totaling £3,009.
The salary is broken down as £59,301 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £72,254. Plus, a location allowance of £2,009 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.
Location: London & Hybrid (60% / 3-days per week in office). You can choose a ‘home base’ Met location from: Sidcup and Belvedere. We offer the flexibility to work in a Hybrid way, where you can deliver your best, including Working from Home (WFH). Travel across the Met Estate, to attend meetings as required by the business, is expected.

The Digital & Innovation Business Group brings together technology, the effective use of data, and our capability to deliver change and reform to drive the Met forward: this is central to progressing delivery of New Met for London 2. Job Purpose
The Senior Lead for Records Management is responsible for translating the organisations Records Management strategy into effective operational delivery across both physical and digital records.
The role ensures the consistent implementation of records management frameworks, driving compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, including the Data Protection Act 2018, UK GDPR, the Police Records and Information Management Code of Practice, and the Management of Police Information (MoPI).
The postholder will lead on embedding best practice, strengthening compliance, and delivering continuous improvement to support operational policing, public trust, transparency, and the lawful use of data.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Translate the MPS Records Management strategy into clear operational plans, controls, and deliverables aligned to organisational priorities.
- Lead the implementation of records management policies, standards, and procedures across the MPS, ensuring consistent adoption.
- Monitor and report on compliance with legislative, regulatory, and organisational requirements, escalating risks and issues as appropriate.
- Oversee and assure records retention, review, and disposal programmes in line with MoPI and statutory requirements.
- Lead internal audits, compliance reviews, and assurance activities to evaluate records management effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Deliver continuous improvement initiatives to enhance records management capability, processes, and controls.
- Provide subject matter expertise and practical guidance to senior leaders, Information Asset Owners, and operational teams on records management and compliance matters.
- Support the embedding of robust records management practices within wider data governance and digital transformation programmes.
- Ensure records management requirements are implemented effectively within new and existing systems and technologies.
- Identify, assess, and manage risks associated with records management, particularly relating to retention, access, and disposal.
- Provide regular reporting to governance forums on compliance, financial budget, audit outcomes, risks, and performance.
- Support organisational readiness for external inspection and regulatory scrutiny (e.g. HMICFRS, ICO).
- Lead day-to-day oversight of physical and digital records management activities and associated teams.
- Build capability across the organisation through training, guidance, and awareness initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders across policing, criminal justice, public sector partners and external suppliers to promote best practice and consistency.

Vetting Clearance
For this role the Vetting Clearance is Force Clearance Level, Recruitment Vetting (RV), and National Security Vetting (NSV) Level, Counter Terrorism Check (CTC).
Working Pattern
Employment: Permanent, Full-Time (36-hours per week)
Hybrid Working available in line with the Metropolitan Police Service hybrid working policy.
You will be expected to work from a Met location for at least three days a week (60% of working time) to support our operational teams and collaborate effectively. For up to two days per week (no more than 40% of working time), you may be permitted to work from home, balancing flexibility with organisational need.
